Pleading Innocence
Putting on a game face to cover some negligent act that has occurred. Unscrupulous businessmen are adept a pleading innocence to a fact. The tactic here is to construct a rationale in which any ethical or legal impropriety can be plausibly denied. A lawyer might write up a contract with little investment of energy and time. When the contract falls apart, the lawyer pleads innocence to the client.
