The word perturb derives from perturbation theory found in astronomy. Here a slight change in the orbit can have huge effect, with time, on the fate of a planet. A tiny change in orbit can result in the planet going way off course. In social struggles very high minded players will systematically perturb a client to have a more favorable outcome of a business relationship
