IP, IPR

Initial Point in a Conflict

Initial point (IP) is the seminal point in a business relationship where a person is opportunistic, insensitive, rude, uncaring, not responding, or simply not listening. It is that moment when the businessman or the customer begins to cheat, overpower, or manipulate the other for economic advantage.

This point is marked by what could be called "blowback."  Here aggression, lying, cunning and guile first meet with resistance. Here is a situation where the client is not happy. If the client overreacts they can cause the business person to overreact causing the conflict to spiral upward in intensity.

If the merchant becomes aggressive the initial point become a time of intensified emotions. Here, the initial point reveals the tip of a wedge that forces more and more concessions on the customer as the merchant begin to constructively extract more money from their clients. Emotion rather than rationality begins to prevail.

There does not need to be intent to cheat someone for emotion to go out of control. An initial point might indicate the actions of a naive homeowner who holds up the completion of a construction project. Here, they make numerous decisions concerning the appliances and drag their heals getting the appliances to the job site. This delay costs the contractor a lot of money forcing them to move onto another project. Once the appliances are delivered the contractor cannot return to finish the remodel for a couple of weeks causing the naive homeowner to get very angry, and yet they were the cause of conflict. Either the businessperson or the client can initiate initial point of conflict. Where there is a lot of money at stake one party or the other might be seeking unfair advantage over the other. Savvy business people recognize the early signs of misunderstanding and move early on to take care of customer complaints.

The mathematical nature of conflicts for the mathematically inclined.
An IP is established, for example, in the workplace when an associate in a shared cubicle is chewing gum making popping sounds that are distracting. The insensitive person is asked to stop but over time they begin chewing the gum again. The second IP instance is called IPRbecause the the initial point of conflict is being reinforced and perpetuated. This increases emotions among the coworkers and marks the beginning of an ongoing conflict. So, conflicts have an initial point or source, but some conflicts escalate where others simmer when an IPR repeatedly evidences itself.. Repeted reinforcments would be written as IPR1, IPR2, IPRinfinity. A relationship that is defined by conflicts has individual points of conflict and points that repeat themselves. As the reinforcments chewing gum moves towards infinity emotions rise mathematically amoung coworkers. If nothing stops the ofesnsive action such as a boss emotions will esclate to a breaking boint where tempers and even violence can flare. Also there is the mathmatical relationship between the number of ordinary IP's and the evolution of an IPR. This is why it is essential for small business owners to observe business protocols and decorums to reduce the possibility of an IPR emerging in thier relationship with their customer. An IPR is like an infection that is difficult to stop once it has started.
